A man was sentenced in connection with the shooting death of his wife at their Douglasville home.
DOUGLASVILLE, GA — A 51-year-old man has pled guilty to fatally shooting his wife in the head and stomach in front of her daughter during an altercation in October, the Douglas County District Attorney's Office said Wednesday.
The deadly shooting happened the evening of Oct. 4, when Volanta and Sabrina Walker began arguing at their Littlebrook Way home. During the altercation, prosecutors said Volanta Walker became enraged and retrieved a gun.
He then threatened his 56-year-old wife, and when she tried to escape by running outside the home, Volanta Walker followed her and shot her in the head and abdomen.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation, at the time, said Volanta Walker was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Prosecutors said he had a history of violence with his wife and others.
On Monday, he pled guilty to malice murder, two counts of aggravated assault against a peace officer, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
Douglas County Superior Court Judge Deah Warren sentenced him to life in prison plus 25 years. Additionally, he cannot have any contact with Sabrina Walker's family.
“Too often as a society we are dismissive of the impact of domestic violence on those victimized by it and their loved ones. We will look the other way and minimize the threat based on if a victim decides to leave or stay with their abuser," Douglas County District Attorney Dalia Racine said in a news release.
"Domestic violence calls are some of the most dangerous calls law enforcement encounter. We lost a precious life when she decided to leave her abuser. However, he will never be able to take away her impact to her family and our community. We hope this swift resolution allows her family to move forward in their healing process.”
