Douglas County Schools to Launch Medal of Honor Character Program

The Douglas County School System is the first school district in Georgia to become a part of the Medal of Honor (MOH) Character Development Program. The rollout of the program will begin Wednesday, Sept. 5, 9 a.m. at the Douglas County Board of Education Office, 9030 Highway 5, Douglasville.

A number of prominent guests will be at the school district Wednesday to assist in bringing the new initiative for character education to Douglas County Schools. Speakers will be as follows:

  • Keynote Speaker: George Patton Waters, grandson of General George Patton
  • Brent E. Bracewell, Colonel of Aviation and Director of the Joint Staff of Georgia
  • Jim Cook, retired Curator of the Marietta Aviation Museum
  • Noel Wall, MOH Foundation staff member

At the end of their talks, there will be a surprise gift (The Teacher Resource Kit) to each school in the county made possible by a grant worth over $3,300 from The Medal Of Honor Foundation, courtesy of a donor from Pennsylvania through Ms. Jennifer Lennon.

This amazing program is cross curricular in design and is built upon the six pillars of character. It was designed by a team of teachers and shares the legacies of Medal of Honor Recipients through personal interviews. The gifted resource kits are just the springboard to an impressive collection of online resources. This online component is free to our schools. This is a win-win opportunity for our community.

Coordinating this program for the school system is George Chip and Mitzi Teal.
