The Douglas County Partners in Education (PIE) group had the largest turnout ever for their annual kickoff breakfast. GreyStone Power hosted the western-themed event, which brought together business and education leaders. Business participants signed up to support their partner schools and developed plans to impact student achievement.
Douglas County School System Superintendent Dr. Gordon Pritz addressed the attendees about the need for community support of the schools. “We continue to experience cuts and those things that diminish our resources. We need heroes for public education. You are there in the trenches with us defending public education,” he said.
Developer Harrison Merrill spoke about the school system’s partnership with Foxhall Resort and Sporting Club. Merrill said that Foxhall will be the “largest resort in metro Atlanta and one of the largest in the southeast.” On Oct. 27, the first annual Foxhall Family Festival, an event that Merrill hopes will have 15,000 to 30,000 people in attendance, could bring needed revenue to the school system.
