The Tenth Amendment Media Group wants you to ‘Know Blue, Stay Alive.’ September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month. Prostate Cancer is the most common cancer among men. It is the second when compared to lung cancer in cancer related deaths.
More than 241,000 new cases will be diagnosed, and about 28,000 deaths will be attributed to prostate cancer, in 2012 in the U.S. For reasons not fully understood, black men have the highest frequency of prostate cancer in the world and the highest death rate from the disease. In other parts of the world -- notably Asia, Africa, and Latin America -- prostate cancer is rare.
The State of Georgia has one of the highest incident rates and death rates for this disease.
“Given these grim statistics, it’s time for all men to ‘Know Blue, Stay Alive,’” Dominique Huff, CEO/Founder of the Tenth Amendment Media Group said. “When it comes to Breast Cancer, the advocates do an excellent job of getting us to ‘think pink’ and now we must apply that same energy and initiative to Prostate Cancer. We are losing too many men simply because we think it’s not manly to go get checked out.”

The rally will be held on Saturday, September 8 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the State Capitol. The event will take place on the Washington Street side. Speakers from various organizations such as the Georgia Prostate Cancer Coalition, East Point Councilman Marcel Reed and others will be in attendance. All men’s organizations from Metro Atlanta are invited. Participants are requested to wear blue in solidarity.
‘Know Blue, Stay Alive,’ is an initiative of the Tenth Amendment Media Group that consists of an annual rally, a daddy-daughter gala, 5K walk/run and men’s health fair. These events are being developed for 2013 and portions of the proceeds will be donated to organizations and agencies geared to develop the cure of this disease.

Terrence ‘T.Chat’ Chatman, Founder/CEO of SkateBoyz ATL, a GLBT skating event held bi-monthly at MetroSkates on Metropolitan Parkway has joined forces with the Tenth Amendment Media Group. “We feel that we are in a position to impact our community which more often than not is unaware and underserved when it comes to major health issues such as prostate cancer,” he said. “We would like to provide information to our patrons and members within our community who are at greater risk and/or at the prime age to incorporate annual checkups and preventive care in their lifestyle.”
On Wednesday, Sept. 12 from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. at MetroSkates, SkateBoyz ATL will host a skate party where a portion of the proceeds will benefit Prostate Cancer research. Admission will be $5. The Exceptional Radio Network will be broadcasting various shows all night long during the skating event.
“We would like to impact the next generation by providing must-read information as a method of preventive care and sheer awareness,” Chatman added
The ultimate goal is to get more men used to getting their prostates checked out and most importantly, taking better care of their overall health.
“When it comes to our health, we must start having the uncomfortable conversation. We can talk about various topics amongst ourselves but we shy away from health,” Huff concluded. “This must change. I refuse to wait for a leader or government to do it for us; it is up to us as individuals and businesses to lead the charge.”
Other firms and organizations supporting this initiative are: WJ Enterprises, Meak Productions, Inc., Greater Business Exchange of Georgia, MAE Corporation USA and Black Nonbelievers.
