A diverse variety of styles and artists are celebrated in this national exhibition.
DOUGLASVILLE, GA – The Cultural Arts Council Douglasville/Douglas County is currently exhibiting the annual National Open Visual Arts Show, or NOVAS. This exhibit will be open through Sept. 26. The show is open during our regular business hours and special gallery tours are available by appointment. NOVAS 2018 features forty-seven artists from across the country and local favorites working in different media ranging from oil painting to bronze sculpture.
The winners were awarded their cash prizes on Sept. 4 at the opening reception. First Place winner was awarded to Linda Lowery for her piece “Wax Thinker.” Second Place was awarded to Pokey Park for her “Harbor Seal.” Third Place was awarded to Ernie Hendrix for her painting “You Have a Collect Call.” And Honorable Mention went to Stella Spyrou for her photograph “Light Designs.” The cash prizes were sponsored by Douglasville Convention & Visitors Bureau to artists placing first, second, third, and honorable mention in the competition. This year’s Mary Ann Carney award by the Douglas County Art Guild for excellence in painting was awarded to Nancy Jeanette Long for her “Red Red Rooster.”
A diverse variety of styles and artists are celebrated in this national exhibition. NOVAS 2018 is the CAC’s largest group show of the year. Photographer, Diane Yancey showcases her photography skills with her “Cabin in the Snow.” Antoine Williams has created a vibrant acrylic painting depicting “A Mother’s Love.” Ann Cockerill submitted three colorful and stunning acrylic paintings that celebrate the beauty of nature. Pokey Park, who is always a favorite, is showcasing two works of art that depict her eclectic sculpture style. Detailed graphite, oil painting and crystals by New York artist Gail Postal hang gracefully on the walls next to vibrant dabs of color dappling an abstract painting by local Grete Carder. With the variety of work, NOVAS is sure to feature something for everybody.
