On September 10th, The Cultural Arts Council of Douglasville/Douglas County (CAC) held its first-ever Multicultural Festival. There was a strong sense of community during the event as over 500 guests came to learn about different cultures. All of these diverse cultures are present in and around the community.

The Multicultural Festival hosted over 20 vendor booths. Each booth represents a local business or organization. These organizations came together to provide a cultural lesson to guests. From West Georgia Realtors who wowed their booth guests with a lesson on using and eating with chopsticks, to Perfecta Worldline Outreach Ministries providing traditional Nigerian Food, the vendors took great care to educate guests about the diverse cultures throughout the community.

In addition to vendors, the Multicultural Festival provided entertainment in the form of live performances presented by cultural artists, and dancers from around the world. Among these was the Academy of Kuchipudi Dance, whose performance included teaching the audience about traditional Kuchipudi dance styles before transitioning into a thrilling dance demonstration.

Executive Director, Emily Lightner, stated " I am thrilled the CAC was able to provide this platform for exploring what shapes us as individuals, what binds us together as a community, and the education/awareness around diversity, equity, and inclusion with a specific focus on how the arts can help bridge these gaps.”

During the festival guests were asked to vote on who they thought had the best culturally decorated booth. The competition was tough as all of the vendors went above and beyond when decorating their booths. After the event the votes were counted, and Douglas County Parks & Recreations booth about Hispanic culture was crowned as winners!
