HigherGround Exhibit Reception - In Honor of Black History Month

Event Details

An exhibit entitled “HigherGround” focused on connecting to the higher self is on display at the Cultural Arts Center of Douglasville/ Douglas County (CAC) in honor of Black History Month, from January 8-February 20, 9 am – 5 pm. The opening reception will be celebrated on Saturday, January 31 from 5-7 pm, hosted by Douglas County Connection. Anyone and everyone is invited. Focused on the power of cultural history to guide us to our higher selves, the reception will be an evening to reflect on the best aspects of community: common culture, shared history, and spiritual elevation. The pieces selected for the show, also inspired by the theme, reflect the beauty and power of finding one’s best, most authentic and expressive self despite hardship; embracing the cultural identities that strengthen us.

Lead by Atlanta artist Charly Palmer and featuring up and coming artists he’s selected, “HigherGround” is an exhibition centered on inspiration, self-expression, and the celebration of one’s highest self. It is about encouragement, upliftment, and the power of stories; those we tell, and those we share. The exhibit showcases artists who push through personal boundaries in their work and is designed to encourage viewers to consider their own comfort zones with the goal of creating a space where experimentation is welcomed and where the artistic process itself has been expanded beyond convention.

Host of the exhibit reception, Douglas County Connection (DCC), was founded by Helen Catron in 1990, and over the past 25 years has tirelessly supported the arts in Douglas County. DCC will top off the evening with a delicious spread of refreshments. During announcements, DCC will speak about the importance of supporting African American culture, history, and artists of all disciplines.
