Here are the top five stories in Douglasville today:
- The City of Douglas is observing the Juneteenth holiday today, Jun. 20, and city administrative offices, including Douglasville City Hall, City Hall Annex, and Municipal Court and Records, will be closed. Today's sanitation routes will be picked up tomorrow, Jun. 21. According to the City, the Police Department will maintain its normal hours of operation, and the Parks and Recreation Department will be open for scheduled camps and program activities. - Did you know that the Douglasville Police Department holds a free public handgun clinic on the first Tuesday of every month from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.? This clinic is open to adults age 18 and older and covers basic gun laws, handgun safety, and shooting skills. Classes fill up quickly, so email DPDTraining@douglasvillega.gov if you would like to attend an upcoming session. (Douglasville Police Department via Facebook)
- Earlier this month, rising Douglas County High School senior Zachariah Keith announced his commitment to Georgia Tech to continue his football career. The 6-foot-5, 260-pound edge defender chose to stay local and join the Yellow Jackets, although he received offers from 15 other schools, including Maryland, Michigan State, Vanderbilt, West Virginia, and Temple. During his junior year, Keith racked up 101 tackles, 17 tackles for loss, 14 sacks, three quarterback hurries, and four forced fumbles, according to MaxPreps. He is the fourth commitment for Georgia Tech in the 2023 recruiting cycle. (247Sports)

- The Douglasville Police Department thanked community members who attended Thursday night's Town Hall meeting tonight on active shooter situations. "Law enforcement in this community is ready to respond, well trained, equipped, and prepared to work together to take the actions necessary to immediately address such a threat," wrote the Department in a Facebook post.
