Here are the top five stories today in Douglasville:

  1. This Saturday, Douglas County is hosting the Mosaic Festival at the Cultural Arts Center from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The festival will feature food, performances, and interactive demonstrations. Connect Douglas will be providing a free event shuttle running every 20 minutes. The shuttle will run individuals from the nearby MMTC platform. (Press Release Desk)
  2. Douglas County has experienced multiple Commercial Burglaries involving secured mailboxes over the past two months. In all instances, the mailboxes are being broken into and their contents stolen. The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division identified a suspect, Stephen Smith. While executing a search and arrest warrant for Smith on Sep. 7, the police took three people into custody along with large quantities of stolen mail.   3. Alexander High School’s mixed mastery chorus traveled to Truist Park to perform the national anthem before the Atlanta Braves took on the New York Mets at the end of August. AHS Chorus Director Heather Russell said, “It was the second year that we’ve been to do this as a program, and it was really cool that we got to do it before a big game like the Braves versus the Mets.” She hopes to make the trip an annual event.   4. George State Rep Micah Gravley of Douglasville visited Israel last month. The goal of the trip was to strengthen the relationship between the state and Israel. While there, Gravley also met with the ambassador from Bahrain to Israel as well as the director of the U.S. Consulates Department's North America Division. (Opera News, Subscription)
  5. The Douglas County branches of the West Georgia Regional Library System have plenty of upcoming events for the whole family to enjoy. Head over to the Douglas County Public Library on Sep. 13 for an adult crafting group, or enjoy making gemstone soaps at Lithia Springs Public Library on Sep. 20.
