- A tax rate of 12.56 mills has officially been adopted for 2022. The Douglas County Board of Commissioners voted 4-1 on Thursday to adopt the rate that represents a 5.33% tax rate, though it is the same rate that was adopted last year. (Douglas County Sentinel)
- The Douglas County grand jury indicted a 23-year-old man this month on first-degree vehicular homicide charges for a 2021 car accident. Vonterrius Brunson was also charged with a DUI in the car accident that killed a passenger in his car. Brunson is currently in the county jail. (Douglas County Sentinel)
- Georgia police are searching for 15-year-old Miricale Parks who was last seen on Aug. 3 in Columbus. The Douglas County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help in locating the teen who has ties to Douglas County and the Lithia Springs area. (WJCL)
- A Douglasville man was arrested on Sunday in New Jersey after he kidnapped his girlfriend at gunpoint and shot her multiple times — with children present — when she tried to break up with him. Eder Gelin, 39, is facing charges of attempted murder, kidnapping, child endangerment, and a weapons charge. Gelin has a prior history of harassing, stalking, and threatening his girlfriend. (NJ.com)
- The Douglas County Human Society has released an update on an animal hoarding situation they began collecting donations for over the weekend. A total of 36 animals have been pulled from Dogs Rock Inc. and are being treated for skin issues, hair loss, parasitic infections, and diarrhea caused by unsanitary conditions. Douglas County Animal Services is still accepting monetary donations and supplies to help with this situation. (Douglas County Human Society via Facebook)
