- A Douglasville native has been named one of seven 2022 Peach State Scholars. Reginald D. Benson, Jr., will be included in the second class of scholars in the Medical College of Georgia's MCG3+ Primary Care Pathway Program, allowing him to finish medical school in three years instead of four. Benson, Jr., plans to practice emergency medicine. (PR Newswire)
- Main Street Douglasville has been designated as an accredited 2022 Main Street America™ program for its hard work and dedication to strengthening the community. Douglasville Downtown Development Authority Board President Elena Hudson said, “Receiving our accreditation puts our Main Street program in a premium position for more prosperous growth and impactful progress." - Ronnie Price, 55, of Douglasville, has been convicted on 10 counts of sexual exploitation of children. A jury trial last week found Price guilty after he was originally indicted on Mar. 22, 2019. Price was out on a $50,000 bond until the two-day trial began last week. (Douglas County Sentinel)
- A jury has found Douglasville native Jonathan Isaac Smith, 23, guilty this week for crimes he committed last year. Smith is guilty of aggravated assault after apparently kidnapping his ex-girlfriend and holding her against her will for three days, threatening to kill her, and pulling out her teeth with pliers. Smith was issued a 20-year sentence. (The Atlanta Journal Constitution)
- The Douglas County Humane Society is urging the community to donate to its fundraiser. The Douglas County Animal Services is rescuing animals in a hoarding case who will need care from the humane society. As of Friday afternoon, the hoarding situation was still being assessed so the exact medical costs and conditions of the animals are unknown at this time. (Douglas County Humane Society via Facebook)
