Here are the top 5 stories in Douglasville today:

  1. Calling all artists! This serves as a reminder that the National Juried Arts Show deadline is today, Jun. 30. Artists have until the end of the business day to submit up to three artworks each for the chance to win one of six cash prizes. Make sure to turn in your entries today! (Cultural Arts Council Douglasville)
  2. There are so many Fourth of July events happening this year that everyone can find something they enjoy! If you’re interested in staying in Douglasville, make sure to check out the “Big Bang 4th of July Celebration” at the Arbor Place mall starting at 5 p.m. If you’re more interested in exploring other nearby areas in Georgia, check out this list. (Access Atlanta)
  3. For those planning to attend the annual July 4th Douglasville parade, the Douglasville Police Department has an update for you. This year, there will be a change in the parade route. The parade is set to start at 10:00 a.m. on Church Street on Fairburn Road, the same as other years. However, it will turn onto Club Drive and then go to Selman Drive to avoid construction happening in the area. The Police warn that anyone who normally watches the parade from the old jail area, Rosehaven, and Rose Avenue will not be able to see the parade. (Douglasville Police Department via Facebook)
  4. Attention all Douglas County educators: the Women of Douglasville group encourages you to head to Amazon.com to create a wishlist for your classroom. The Women of Douglasville group will be sharing these wishlists on their Facebook page every day, from Jun. 28 through Jul. 29. Head to this link to submit your request to participate. (Women of Douglasville via Facebook)
  5. Douglas County community members, it's time to stuff the bus! The Douglas County School System is asking for donations of school supplies, personal hygiene items, socks, underwear, and feminine products. They've noted that no book bags are needed this year. Donations can be dropped off at the DCSS Board of Education office and a community outreach event will be held on Saturday, Jul. 23 at 10 a.m. (dcssga.org)
