🌱 Douglasville Resident Named To Health Commission + SPLOST Meeting

Here are the top five stories in Douglasville today:

  1. On Friday, Georgia Governor Brian Kemp announced his Healthcare Workforce Commission appointees, including one Douglasville resident. Despina "Debi" Dalton was named to the commission to help tackle significant challenges facing the healthcare industry in Georgia. Dalton currently serves as Vice President of Medical Affairs for Wellstar Douglas Hospital in Douglasville. (Gov.Georgia.gov.)
  2. Douglasville Parks and Recreation have announced registration is now open for the 2022 Hunter Park Fall Girls Softball League. The league is for girls ages five through 12 and teaches softball skills, being a part of a team, and sportsmanship. Players of all skill levels and experience are welcome to sign up.   3. Next Thursday, the city of Douglasville will be hosting a SPLOST (Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax) informational meeting next week. The meeting is for residents in ward 1 to discuss the one-cent sales tax that provides funding exclusively for capital projects – roads, buildings, vehicles and major equipment, and other long-lived improvements. The SPLOST informational meeting will take place at the Arbor Station Clubhouse at 5:00 pm. (City of Douglasville)
  4. Wednesday night, the Douglas County Board of Commissioners voted to approve funding to improve three county parks. The parks receiving funding are the Punkintown Nature Preserve, Bill Arp Park, and Fairplay Park. The renovations at the Bill Arp and Fairplay Parks, both located in Douglasville, include new fencing and dugouts and an added wall for safety. (Press Release Desk)
  5. The Douglas County Board of Commissioners will be hosting the 2022 Leadership Academy in Douglasville. The program is for area seniors who are looking to receive intense, comprehensive, and robust professional development. The three-day program will take place from Jul. 11 to Jul. 13, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Douglasville Conference Center. (Press Release Desk )

  • The Douglasville Police Department has several certified instructors among its ranks. These instructors teach within the department and also teach at the North Central GA Law Enforcement Academy. Law enforcement instructors often use scenario-based training to prepare both new recruits and veteran officers for situations they may be faced with in real life.
