- Governor Brian Kemp has recently announced that the suspension on gas taxes will be extended through Aug. 13. As gas prices rise, this suspension on tax is designed to alleviate financial hardship for Georgia residents and allow motorists to save some money, especially during the holiday weekend. Initially, the order was only supposed to last through Jul. 14, but as inflation continues to rise, this measure will hopefully help Douglas County residents who may be traveling throughout the summer. - The Douglasville Police Department has found missing person, Bryan Avans. He was last seen on May 30th, at the Kroger on Chapel Hill Rd. but after about a month, they were able to locate him. They would like to thank the community for their assistance in this missing persons' case. (Douglasville Police Department via Facebook)
- Going back to school can be a very overwhelming time for both students and parents, but you're in luck because the Douglas County School System will be holding a Back to School Kickoff on Jul. 23! The event will provide information and resources to help families get ready for the new year as well as games, food and school supplies! The event is completely free and will take place at the DCSS Central Office. (Douglas County School System)
- Looking to shred up the dance floor this summer, but don't know where to start? The Ike Owings Community Center will be holding a Passport to Latin Social Dancing course from Jul. 10 through Aug. 28! The class will not only teach the mechanics and movements of the various dance styles, but dancers will also learn about the historical and cultural meanings as well. - The Douglasville Police Department reminds residents that fireworks will be legal to fire between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 11:59 p.m. this Sunday and Monday. They also emphasize that it is very dangerous to operate them under the influence of drugs or alcohol. (Facebook)
- The Douglas County School System's Central Office will be closed for the holiday from Jul. 4 through Jul. 8. The office will not reopen until Monday, Jul. 11 at 8 a.m. (Facebook)
- The Douglas County Humane Society reminds pet owners to keep their pets safe this Fourth of July, as it is the most common day for pets to run away. Make sure to watch and care for your pets a little bit extra this year by keeping them leashed, calm and at home! (Facebook)
