  1. The Georgia Supreme Court has denied a request to suspend Douglas County judge Christina Peterson after she was accused of wrongly pressuring her neighborhood homeowners' association. The accusation is the latest in a series of controversies involving Peterson, who has garnered more than 50 counts of alleged judicial misconduct from the Judicial Qualifications Commission. This is the second time the state Supreme Court has denied a request for the judge's suspension. (FOX 5 Atlanta)
  2. The Mighty Marching Jaguars of New Manchester High School have been invited to perform in a jamboree kicking off the HBCU classic between Howard University and Alabama State University. During the game's halftime, the marching band will also be featured in a battle with the MLK Marching Kings. The jamboree takes place tomorrow, Aug. 27, and will be free and open to the public.   3. The City of Douglasville invites residents to attend the first Town Center Implementation Strategy community meeting next Tuesday, Aug. 30. The meeting will provide an overview of various plans that have been developed for Douglasville's town center area and provide an opportunity to share feedback.   4. A local football player was named to a list of high school athletes on the cusp of adding a fourth star to their college prospect rankings. Analysts say defensive lineman Tyree Weathersby could make the jump in rankings with a strong performance during his senior season this fall. Weathersby currently plays for New Manchester High School in Douglasville and has committed to join the University of Tennessee Volunteers in 2023. (On3.com)
  5. The Dose of Douglasville Citizen's Academy beginning Sep. 13 still has several openings. This free 10-week program meets Tuesday evenings and helps attendees become more knowledgeable community members and effective neighborhood leaders.
