A Scam Alert Has Been Issued By Douglas County Sheriff's Office

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office alerts the public that there is a new scam circulating around the county.

DOUGLAS COUNTY, GA – The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office has alerted the public that there's a new scam circulating around the county. Deputies have been made aware of several residents who have been receiving phone calls from someone claiming to be representing the Sheriff's command staff and demanding money because they have missed a court date or for some other legal matter.

The Sheriff's Office warns that even though the phone number may look like it’s coming from their office and the person may use the name of someone currently employed with us, the person demanding money is not from the Sheriff’s Office.

"We will never resolve these issues over the phone as we prefer to handle them in person," the Sheriff's Office reported on Facebook. "Our investigators are currently working to track down the individual(s) responsible. We encourage everyone to simply hang up the phone if someone claiming to be from law enforcement demands some form of payment in lieu of your being arrested."
