Here are the top five stories in Douglasville today:

  1. Douglas County announced the dates and themes for this year's September Saturdays. The festival and community event will take place on two consecutive Saturdays in September inside and on the grounds of the Douglas County Courthouse in Douglasville from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sep. 17 will be "Heroes Day & Touch a Truck Experience", and Saturday, Sep. 24 will be "Family Day, Fun & Games Festival."   2. A Douglasville organization is aiming to improve the lives of veterans and first responders. Operation Not Forgotten is based out of Douglasville and its goal is to help veterans and their families build better lives. Steve Schiffman, an Air Force veteran, is the founder and executive director of the organization who started the non-profit after seeing a lot of need for veteran support in the Douglasville community.   4. On Monday, the City of Douglasville held its annual 4th of July parade. After the parade, Mayor Robinson held a ceremony at Hunter Park honoring this year's Grand Marshal, Martin Thomas.   5. Food Truck Monday in Douglasville will be returning next Monday! On Jul. 11, the next Food Truck Monday will be at the Old PD Parking Lot at 6730 Church Street in Douglasville from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The city encourages everyone attending to bring their own chairs. (The City of Douglasville)
