Here are the top three stories in Duluth today:
- Duluth officials have picked the artist that will create a sculpture from parts of the old Rogers Bridge for public display. Atlanta-based Nucleus Studio will create a sculpture from the 110-year-old bridge which was removed last year to make way for a new pedestrian-friendly walkway bridge. Once finished, the new bridge will connect Duluth and Johns Creek as well as Fulton and Gwinnett counties. The sculpture will be installed in Rogers Bridge Park on the Duluth side of the new bridge. - Good Morning Gwinnett is hosting its first-ever Cereal Eating Contest today with a $200 grand prize. The money and a 2022 trophy will await the first person who eats the whole bowl of cereal with milk. The contest is happening at 11:45 a.m. at the Rhodes Jordan Park Pavilion 1, 100 East Crogan Street in Lawrenceville, about 20 minutes from Duluth. (PatchPatch)
- Gwinnett Police have made multiple arrests while breaking up multiple illegal street-racing groups over the past few weeks. Alan Thomas Rodriquez, 20, of Atlanta, Donovan Santiago Ramos-Hernandez, 19, of Norcross, and Jorge Coronado-Angel, 17, of Roswell were arrested in connection to damaging an officer's patrol car during a race. Last Sunday, police arrested Brian Antonio-Garfias, 17, of Norcross and William Anthony Valencia, 19, of Aragon at the intersection of Peachtree Parkway and East Jones Bridge, a few miles from Duluth, on suspicion of street racing activities.
