Duluth Hit-And-Run Kills Pedestrian; Suspect Charged

The pedestrian was found lying in the roadway at Peachtree Industrial Boulevard and was later pronounced dead at a hospital.

DULUTH, GA — A pedestrian is dead, and a man is in jail, following a hit-and-run Monday at Peachtree Industrial Boulevard near Prince Charles Drive, Duluth Police said Tuesday.

Police said the crash happened around 12:15 a.m. When officers responded, they found 26-year-old Cassius Franswah lying in the road after being hit by a vehicle, police said.

Officers rendered aid to the man until paramedics arrived; however, police said Franswah was pronounced dead at the hospital.

DPD's Accident Investigation Unit led the probe into his death and was able to identify the car from the crash as a Nissan Sentra.

Police said Real-Time Crime Center cameras tracked the car to a location in the City of Duluth, and after a search, officers found the Sentra with front damage in an apartment parking lot near Peachtree Industrial.

The hit-and-run suspect was identified as Nidar Ballan-Bellan, 45, on suspicion of homicide by vehicle - leaving the scene, hit and run resulting in death and driving without a valid license, police said.
