Duluth Home A Total Loss After Overnight Fire

DULUTH, GA – A Duluth home was a total loss during an overnight fire Monday. There was no one at the house when firefighters and police arrived and no injuries were reported.

Firefighters responded at 3:33 a.m., to a neighbor report of a house fire in the 2700 block of Rhoanoke Drive, NW in Duluth. The caller to 911 reported flames from the top of the house. They also advised that two cars were in the driveway and it was unknown if anyone was inside the house at the time of the call.

Fire crews arrived to find the two-story, wood-frame house on a basement fully involved. The house sits about a hundred feet off the roadway down a wooded driveway. Firefighters had to stretch attack hose lines up the driveway to battle the blaze. Crews were not able to make immediate entry inside the burning home due to the magnitude of the fire. Firefighters had to knock down the bulk of the flames from the outside to control the blaze and protect exposures. The home is a total loss.

Initial thoughts that an older couple was still inside proved negative. A police officer was able to make contact with the homeowners who advised that they are out of town. The couple’s daughter lives in the area and was requested to come to the scene.

The exact cause of the house fire is currently undetermined and is under investigation.

Firefighters responded around 9 p.m. on Monday, July 23, 2018 to a tree that was hit by lightning on the same street. It is unknown whether the two incidents are related.

Equipment at the scene: three engines, one ladder truck, one squad, two medic units, two battalion chiefs, one air & light unit and one fire investigator.
