Duluth Shows Olympic Spirit

Local Olympics fans, athletes cheer Team USA during 11Alive TV live broadcast from the Town Green Tuesday evening.

Local Olympics fans were featured in an 11Alive TV live broadcast on the Duluth Town Green Tuesday (Aug. 7) from 5 to 6 p.m. The Atlanta television station brought a double-decker red London tour bus and its W.I.Z-O-Meter to town for the broadcast.

Citizens wearing red, white and blue holding posters supporting Team USA in the 2012 London Olympics were joined by groups of local gymnasts, cyclists, archers, fencers and other athletes.

Duluth Historical Society President Judy Wilson brought a display of memorabilia from past Olympic games. Mary Buck, who was interviewed in her 1996 Centennial Atlanta Olympics shirt, showed her Olympic pin collection.

This was the second time this year Duluth has been spotlighted by 11Alive. The TV station broadcast its Morning Show June 15 from the Town Green.
