Patch Pic of the Day
From Atlanta City CouncilΒ District 2:
OLD FOURTH WARD βΒ In only its second year, the Year of Boulevard Back-to-School Block Party has already grown into a neighborhood institution.
On Saturday, July 20 District 2 City Councilman Kwanza Hall and Fulton County Commissioner Joan P. Garner closed five blocks of Boulevard in the Old Fourth Ward to celebrate the waning days of summer and the start of the new school year.
More than 70 government and nonprofit service agencies and sponsors participated.
βWe are fortunate to have so many partners who believe in the children, families, and seniors of the Boulevard corridor,β Hall said.
βThanks to their generosity, this yearβs block party had something for everyone. We had a reading tent, train rides, face painters, and pony rides for the little ones. Teens really enjoyed the skateboard painting, sports drills, and acrobatic performances.
"Parents and families appreciated the shoe and clothing donations and the home delivery of new beds for their children. And seniors kept our bingo tent busy throughout the day.β
Volunteers distributed over 500 backpacks filled with school supplies.Β Families earned the backpacks after collecting βBoulevard Bucksβ from each table they visited. Participating agencies donated 9 pallets of childrenβs clothing, books, educational toys, and personal care items, also redeemable using Boulevard Bucks.
