CABBAGETOWN — The factory mills have long closed their doors, but the close-knit sense of community that has characterized this 132-year-old neighborhood endures.
It's in that spirit that the neighborhood's signature party, the Chomp and Stomp Chili Cook-off and Festival, is this Saturday, Nov. 2 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The Chomp and Stomp, which also features bluegrass musicians and players in other genres, also has a 5K and artists' and crafts market, in addition to its core chili cook-off.
It's $5 for a spoon that will allow to sample all the chili in contention for bragging rights.
The heart of the festival is Cabbagetown Park, 177 Kirkwood Ave.
Cabbagetown is marked by its small, narrow streets, so parking will be at a premium.
If you're driving, you can use the Grady Health Systems parking lot behind the King Memorial MARTA station at 377 Decatur St. SE, free of charg. Festival organizers have rented the lot and buses will transport festivalgoers to and from the lot. (Get more details about transportation options to the festival here, at this link.)
