Earthshaking Music Leaving East Atlanta Village

Music store, a Village staple for more than a decade, is relocating to Benteen Park.

EAST ATLANTA β€” Earthshaking Music, the veneralble outlet for instruments ranging from the traditional to the obscure, is leaving the Village after more than a decade.

Dave Strohauer, the store's owner and East Atlanta resident, opened it in 2000, but moving provided an opportunity too good to pass up.

"The main reason is we've outgrown the space and we had a chance to get a bigger building not too far away," Strohauer told East Atlanta Patch Friday, he and crew removed the last of the items being moved over to the new location.

The new digs in the Benteen Park neighborhood are at 648 McDonough Boulevard, across the street from the federal penitentiary.

At 18,000 square feet, it's more than double the current 7,000 square feet of the East Atlanta space.

"We'll just do what were doing only better," he said, noting the larger facility allows for more showroom space and less area taken up with storage.

The new facility already had a soft opening, he said. A formal, grand opening is expected in about two weeks.

Admittedly, it is a bittersweet moment to say goodbye.

"It is sad," Strohauer said, "but it's a new beginning, really."
