Jackson High School: First Day of School in Review

'We value your trust and will work to ensure your concerns are taken seriously.'

by Stephanie Johnson

KIRKWOOD β€”Β Greetings on the evening of Day 1 of School Year 2014 from Proud Principal Johnson. Our awesome students returned Wednesday and it was great to see the old and meet the new.

We appreciate all parent volunteers for acting as greeters and volunteering with registration. We received multiple compliments on our customer service throughout the day. The day could not have been successful without your help.

Our uniform initiative is a huge success. Of 900 students, only 64 showed up out of uniform today. We were able to locate uniform attire for all but 20 of the students who showed up out of uniform. Parents, teachers, and students commented on the stellar appearance of our student body dressed in uniform attire today. Great job to all of our parents who worked so hard with us to ensure this mission was a success. Student behavior and attendance were great today.

As I close, I want to address Day 1 schedule glitches. Please know that our new counselors and new academy leaders are working around the clock to ensure schedules are complete and accurate for our students. If your student has not received an accurate schedule, please don't be alarmed. Students have been asked to complete schedule change forms to submit to their advisors or counselors immediately. Students will not be penalized for student work they are missing as a result of schedule errors as a result of our organization. Although there are errors, our goal is to educate your child. Counselors are working throughout the day and evenings to make needed schedule changes.

If you contact me through e-mail at stsjohnson@atlanta.k12.ga.us with any concerns you may have addressing registration or schedules, I will address your issue myself. Please know that we value your trust and will work to ensure your concerns are taken seriously.

Thanks again for a very wonderful Day 1.

Ms. Johnson is principal of Maynard H.Β Jackson High School.
