Mayor Kasim Reed's Mother Visits Burgess-Peterson Academy

The students at Burgess-Peterson Academy were excited to interact with Mrs. Sylvia Reed, the mother of Mayor Kasim Reed.

EAST ATLANTA β€” The talented students at Burgess-PetersonΒ Academy, received a treat last week when Mrs. Sylvia Reed, mother of Mayor Kasim Reed, came to their school to read to the pre-k and kindergarten kids.

Talk Up APS shared photos and quotes from the special visit, saying that, "in recognition of Governor Nathan Deal’s β€œGeorgia Reads Aloud Day”, the children welcomed Mrs. Reed with a special song and presented her biography.

Mrs. Reed held off from reading immediately to the students and first asked them if she could just chat with them and learn about them.Β  According to APS, Reed told the students to interact with her and ask questions because she, she likes, "to dialogue with young people because I want to know what is on your minds.”

β€œHow can I grow up to be mayor?”

β€œYou’re in the right place right now. Learn the basics, listen to parents and teachers, go to college and do great things in the community, especially to those who are less fortunate. Always do your best, and believe in yourself and believe in serving people.”
