M.L. King MS Natatorium Remains Closed for Summer

The Grant Park-located natatorium first closed in mid-February for structural maintenance.

Patch Staff Report

After closing the pool at M.L. King Middle School Natatorium for structural maintenance in February 2014, the City of Atlanta's Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) has decided to close the pool for the remaining spring and summer months.

The natatorium, which is inside of M.L. King Middle School and located at 582 Connally St. SE, Atlanta, GA 30312, was scheduled to reopen on April 14, 2014. After closing the pool and beginning repairs including repainting the entire pool and refilling it, it was discovered that additional repairs were needed. While DPR is working diligently to make the repairs and ensure that the integrity of the pool is not compromised, the safety and security of all pool patrons remains the City of Atlanta’s top priority.

DPR apologizes to residents and visitors for the inconvenience; however, residents and visitors are encouraged to use the City’s three other natatoriums, where DPR have increased programming: Adamsville, Rosel Fann and Washington Park. DPR has extended the membership for the registered MLK Natatorium pool patrons by three months.

To compensate for the ongoing maintenance, DPR has also extended the operating hours at Grant Park’s outdoor pool, which is less than a half mile away and opens May 24th, to accommodate the patrons who used the M.L. King Middle Natatorium in the morning. On Monday, Wednesday and Friday, the Grant Park Pool will open from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. strictly for adults (17-54 years old) and seniors (55 years and older).
