Streetscape Work Ruptures Gas Lines for Second Day in East Atlanta

EAST ATLANTA β For the second day in a row, workers on a streetscape project in the Village, ruptured a gas line, disrupting business activity in the area around Flat Shoals and Glenwood avenues.
"Please be advised, gas service has been temporarily turned off in the area of Glenwood Avenue, within the East Atlanta Village," Valerie Bell-Smith, Atlanta Public Works Department spokeswoman, wrote in an e-mail.
"During construction activity today, our contractor ruptured a gas line. The gas company is on the scene determining the extent of the damages. Our construction team is notifying impacted businesses.Β We will advise you when service is restored."

The line is owned by AGL Resources, which is onsite, making repairs.
Kristie Swink Benson, a spokeswoman for the company, said it's only affecting the restaurants in the immediate area, not residential properties.

She did not have an estimated time for when the repairs are expected to be complete.
The snafu follows a similar incident the day before as the city crews, who are working on redoing the streetscape along Flat Shoals, north of Glenwood.
In that case, the fire department closed the road so crews could make repairs, following the 2:10 p.m. incident. The repairs were completed at 8:50 p.m.
