- One suspect has been captured and two more are still at large as of Friday afternoon, May 26, after a vehicle chase along the Bentley Road-Windy Hill Road area. Around 4:00 a.m. Friday morning officers were alerted to a stolen vehicle in the Bentley Road area which matched the description of a vehicle involved in car break-ins in Marietta. Police attempted to make a traffic stop with the suspicious vehicle but ultimately a car chase led to the vehicle being crashed, and three suspects fleeing on foot. One officer has been hospitalized for injuries, and three firearms were found at the scene where the vehicle crashed. (East Cobb News)
- Cobb District Court will not retry Justin Ross Harris, who had been sentenced to serve life in prison for the death of his son in 2014, and whose conviction was overturned last year. District Attorney Flynn Broady confirmed that Harris will not be tried again following the 6-3 vote last June in the Georgia Supreme Court, which overturned Harris' conviction. Harris' 22-month-old son Cooper died of hypothermia after being left all day in a car at his father's Vinings workplace. Harris will continue to serve a 12-year sentence for criminal attempt to commit sexual exploitation of a minor, and distributing harmful materials to minors. (East Cobb News)
- Principal William Dryden has been reassigned to Sedalia Park Elementary from his prior post at Frey Elementary. Dryden, an educator for 20 years, served in the U.S. Navy submarine force from 1992 to 1998 as an electronics tech about the U.S.S. Omaha and the U.S.S. Columbia. Dryden said, "I truly enjoy what I get to experience and learn every day. In addition to my love for family and working in education, I have always sustained my passion for the arts through woodturning, painting, and playing banjo in the local bluegrass community."
