Cobb County School Kids Jump for Others (And a Certain PE Teacher Fulfills a Bet)

Murdock Elementary School students have been jumping around like mad — and nobody's trying to stop them.

In fact, this jumping around is encouraged.

The school is setting new records in their fundraising efforts for the American Heart Association by jumping rope.

Sponsored by the Physical Education Department, this year’s Jump Rope for Heart set a goal of raising $10,000. 

Donations to date: $34,700.68.

Not only was this the most amount raised for Jump Rope for Heart in the history of Murdock (since 1975), but the school ranked No. 1 in Cobb County, the state of Georgia and the Southeast region, which includes surrounding states and Puerto Rico.

If helping others wasn't enough incentive — and it was — the kids also had this to look forward to: gym teacher Marc Renna promised the students that if they met their goal he would dress up and serve lunch as a “lunch lady.”  

He dressed up with makeup, high heels, earrings, panty hose and a dress to honor that promise.
