Here are the top three stories today in East Cobb:
- A Georgia legislative bill to reinstate previously-approved reapportionment lines for the Cobb Board of Commissioners will not move forward during the current session. The bill, known as SB 236, was tabled in the Senate on crossover day, meaning that it cannot be considered for the remainder of the session. The proposed bill can be read in full here. - Multiple zoning cases in Cobb County, including two in East Cobb, have been delayed until April's Cobb Planning Commission Hearing. A proposed 20-home development on Post Oak Tritt Road in east Cobb has experienced delays in zoning hearings since September and will wait another month for its first appearance before the board. A Starbucks proposed for Paper Mill Village in East Cobb is also facing delays, as recently-changed stipulations for the coffee chain could not be implemented prior to Tuesday’s meeting. - A new synthetic turf system has been installed at nearby Marietta High School's baseball and softball fields. Josh Davis, the former Chicago Cub and first-year head baseball coach at Marietta High School, has described the Hellas Major Play Matrix Helix field as being on par with some of the best playing fields in the country. A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held recently to inaugurate the field as Marietta kicked off its 2023 baseball season. (Valdosta Daily Times)

- Looking for a new home nearby or just want to see what's out there? Two open houses are scheduled this Sunday afternoon (Mar. 12) in Marietta. Details on these properties, as well as past open houses for properties still on the market, can be found at the link. (East Cobb Patch)
- The Piedmont Division Model Train Show is happening this weekend (Saturday, Mar. 11, and Sunday, Mar. 12) at the Clarence Brown Conference Center in Cartersville. For local model train lovers, the trip will be well worth the 45-minute drive! (East Cobb Patch)
- Down the road in Austell, the Sweetwater Valley Library has started its Officer Storytime program. Sessions will be held on the fourth Wednesday of each month, with the next one coming up on Mar. 22 at 10:30 a.m. (Cobb County Public Library via Facebook)
