Cobb School District Celebrates 9 National Merit Scholars
The Cobb School District has 9 2017 National Merit Scholars winners. Here are their names.

KENNESAW, GA -- Nine Cobb County School District students were recently honored as winners of the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. More than half of these CCSD scholars come from Walton High School. The scholars from CCSD hail from several of the district's top schools, including Lassiter, Wheeler Campbell and Pope High Schools. More than half of them come from Walton High School.
The nine students represent 12 of the Natonal Merit Scholarship winners that hail from Cobb County overall.
These awards provide between $500 and $2,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study at the institution sponsoring the scholarship.

Nationally, 182 universities in 44 states have agreed to underwrite Merit Scholarship awards, which honor individual academic achievement and potential for collegiate success. In Georgia, 18 institutions, including Northwestern, Vanderbilt, Furman and George Washington universities, will back scores of students.

- Karan A. Pol – Campbell High School
Wednesday's announcement of recipients is the third installment of National Merit Scholar winners this year. On April 19, corporate-sponsored awards were announced, then on May 10 the recipients of the $2,5000 scholarships were named. On July 17, more winners will be announced.

By year's end more than $32 million in National Merit Scholarships will have been awarded to about 7,5000 winners.
