
1. We're again under a Code Orange air-quality alert today, the 67th anniversary of D-Day (there's a powerful video here, and until we get some rain or a break in the temperature, the air quality isn't likely to improve much. There's a 20 percent chance of showers rolling through in the afternoon after 2, and a 10 percent chance of rain this evening, the National Weather Service says. Otherwise, expect a sunny day with a high of about 92, then an overnight low of 67.
2. A day after the Cobb Board of Education as the next superintendent, the officially begins four-day summer workweeks at the Central Office and the schools to save on operational costs. Through the end of July, don't plan on getting any school business done on Fridays.
3. Vacation Bible schools are kicking into high gear this week at East Cobb churches, including Faith Lutheran in the mornings and Mount Bethel United Methodist in the afternoons.

4. The Knights of Columbus and will be sweating for a good cause this morning at for the 15th annual Carpenter Open golf outing, which raises money for Knights Council 9792's charitable activities. Golfers are paying $125 apiece for the outing.
5. The Cobb County Chamber of Commerce is naming its Small Business of the Year this morning at 7:30 at its First Monday Breakfast at the Atlanta Marriott Northwest, 200 Interstate Parkway North. Tickets at the door are $35 for Chamber members, $50 for nonmembers. Here's the list of the 25 Small Businesses of the Year.
