  1. At a zoning hearing on Tuesday in nearby Marietta, the Cobb Planning Commission tabled a proposal for a 20-home development that would be located at the site of a historic cabin and cemetery. The Powers-Jackson Cabin was built in the early 19th century and is the focus of the preservation group Cobb Landmarks. While the cabin was much discussed, the commission decided to delay the rezoning request due to insufficient information from the applicant. This development proposal will be revisited during the commission's May 2 meeting. (Yahoo News)
  2. The proposed Starbucks at Paper Mill Village is now slated to be one story. Previously, the plan was for a two-story, 5,000-square-foot building to replace a smaller Starbucks. However, Cobb's zoning staff determined that the proposed development did not include enough parking. The attorney for the developer has asked for a continuance for the new proposal to be heard in May. (East Cobb News)
  3. The Catholic Church of St. Ann hosted an interfaith service ahead of the Easter weekend. The event was organized by Rabbi Albert Slomovitz, leader of the Jewish-Christian Discover Center, who coordinated with Father Ray Cadran, the pastor of St. Ann's, and Pastor Michael Tutterow of Heritage Baptist Church. Around 30 worshippers participated in the breaking of matzah and round table discussions. (Yahoo News)
  4. Cobb County Tax Assessor Stephen White said that he expects the county's tax digest to grow by 13 percent in 2023, an increase from the 12 percent growth seen in 2022. The tax digest is the overall value of property, such as vehicles, personal property, and public utilities. In an interview with Cobb TV, White explained that the average home sale price in the county has been steadily rising since 2018. Cobb County has 245,000 residential properties, and last year, 175,000 properties experienced a change in value. Of the county's 13,000 commercial properties, 10,000 saw increased values.
