Here are the top three stories in East Cobb today:

  1. The number of Cobb Countians who had voted early in-person set a new record on Friday. As of 5:00 p.m. on Friday — the last day of early voting before the Nov. 8 election — about 176,500 voters had cast a ballot in-person, according to Cobb Elections Director Janine Eveler. The 2020 early in-person total was 174,379, and in 2018, it was 111,544. More than 38 percent of Cobb voters have cast a ballot so far, between the early in-person vote and absentee ballots that have been accepted. (Yahoo! Voices)
  2. Cobb County residents can meet the new Cobb County Police Chief during the final East Cobb Area Council of the year. On Nov. 10, recently appointed Cobb County Police Chief Stuart VanHoozer will provide an update on the police department and share his vision for the next year and plans for a new precinct in East Cobb. The East Cobb Citizen of the Year will also be announced during the final Area Council. The event takes place at the Indian Hills Country Club at 7:30 a.m; registration closes on Nov. 8.   3. Plan ahead for your weekly commute this week: The Cobb County Department of Transportation Weekly Travel Advisory has shared its latest planned road work and lane closure schedule.
