East Cobb Cityhood Public Safety Proposals Explained: Report
After a financial feasibility study for the proposed city was released last week, cityhood leaders explained the inclusion of public safety.
EAST COBB, GA — East Cobb cityhood leaders explained the decision to include public safety departments in the proposed city of East Cobb, after initially excluding those from the first cityhood movement.
After public feedback, Craig Chapin, chairman of the Committee for East Cobb Cityhood, said most people "unilaterally wanted police and fire to be included" during a virtual information session Wednesday, according to East Cobb News.
The information session followed the release of a financial feasibility study about the proposed city of East Cobb, conducted by Georgia State University's Andrew Young School of Policy Studies. The study included the following services: police, fire, planning and zoning, and code enforcement — a difference from the initial cityhood bill in 2019.

He said cityhood leaders also heard from Milton and Johns Creek officials, who eventually added public safety into their cities. Chapin also cited a recent survey from the Atlanta Regional Commission that had crime as the top concern in the metro area for the first time.
