Here are the top three stories in East Cobb today:

  1. The National Weather Service in Peachtree City has issued a freeze advisory for Cobb County through 11:00 a.m. today, Mar. 13. Temperatures are expected to be near freezing tonight and tomorrow night following highs in the 60s with warmer weather in store for the final half of the week with highs near 70 and rain going into Thursday. While the weather is expected to cool down for the weekend with lows near freezing, highs in the 50s are expected for Saturday and Sunday. (East Cobb News)
  2. Two construction workers are fighting for their lives after being struck by a vehicle on I-75 in nearby Marietta early Sunday morning. Construction workers Jimmy Varraza, 38, and Oscar Aguilar, 28, were setting up a directional traffic board for a lane closure when a gray 2019 Volkswagen Jetta failed to yield, driving through the message board and hitting the two construction workers. Police said the driver stopped at the scene and ran away on foot before first responders could arrive. Anyone with information regarding the accident is urged to contact Officer K.   3. All Cobb County Public Library locations are now offering free family passes for Smith-Gilbert Gardens. The gardens, which are open year-round, include plant collections, 15 garden areas, 32 sculptures, an art gallery, a gift shop, and the Hiram Butler Home. Each Cobb County library will have one free admission pass available for up to four people to the gardens. The pass, which library cardholders can check out for one week and may be renewed for an additional week, is suitable for general admission only and not valid for admission to special events or exhibits.
