'Historic' Pay Raise Proposed By Cobb Schools Superintendent

MARIETTA, GA -- Cobb Superintendent Chris Ragsdale has unveiled his recommended Fiscal Year 2020 budget, which prioritizes students and staff and includes a historic 8 to 12.6 % proposed raise for every non-temporary staff member in the Cobb County School District. Although they are temporary employees, substitutes are also included in the proposed raise.

“This raise has been made possible by Gov. Brian Kemp’s raise for all teachers and the Board’s responsible financial management, common-sense planning, and some of the lowest central administrative costs in the state,” said Ragsdale.

Cobb’s administrative costs, which can be seen in a metropolitan area low of $162 dollars per student, is $53 below the state average, $86 less than Cobb’s largest metro peer, and is lower than all other metro districts of similar size.

The raise introduced in Ragsdale’s budget also includes a full salary schedule step for eligible employees.

The Cobb board of education is expected to review the proposed budget and scheduled to be voted upon in May. If approved, the raise would go into effect at the beginning of the next fiscal year which begins on July 1.
