Here are the top three stories today in East Cobb:
- Nearby Marietta's Walton High School Winter Guard recently traveled to Dayton, Ohio to compete in the Winter Guard International World Championships. The competition included more than 140 teams. The Walton's group was the only team from Georgia to reach the finals and ultimately took 13th place. (Marietta Daily Journal via Yahoo News)
- By a 4-1 vote, the Cobb Board of Commissioners approved a plan to build a King’s Hawaiian restaurant at a busy Northeast Cobb intersection. The plan had been met with plenty of opposition from nearby residents who said the restaurant would cause too many traffic and safety issues. The only vote against the plan was from Commissioner Monique Sheffield of South Cobb, who said the project was too intense. (East Cobb News)
- The Cobb County School District has announced the retirement of the longtime educator and current principal of Mountain View Elementary School at East Cobb, Renee Garris. Garris was a graduate of Cobb County schools and will be best remembered for her efforts to prepare the school community for the campus relocation in 2017. Her last day will be on Jun. 30.
