Here are the top three stories in East Cobb today:

  1. Rebecca Poole, a 40-year-old woman from Marietta, was tragically killed in a pedestrian crash on I-75 in Cobb County. The incident occurred early in the morning of May 21 when Poole was walking along the shoulder of I-75 and was struck by a northbound vehicle driven by a 24-year-old woman. Poole was pronounced dead at the scene, and the collision is under investigation by the Cobb County Police Department's Selective Traffic Enforcement Program unit. (The Georgia Sun)
  2. During a recent meeting, the Cobb Board of Education made several personnel changes for the upcoming 2023-2024 school year, including the appointment of two principals at East Cobb elementary schools. Dr. Katie Derman will succeed retiring principal Renee Garris at Mountain View Elementary School in Marietta, while William Dryden will become the new principal at Sedalia Park Elementary School. Other promotions and contract extensions within the district's leadership team were also approved, including the appointment of Sherri Hill as the new chief of staff to the superintendent.   3. The Cobb County School District Class of 2023 began receiving diplomas on Monday, May 22, and graduations for the six public high schools in East Cobb will be spread out over the next week.
