COBB COUNTY, GA — With three more town halls planned this month and a public survey open looking for feedback to refine the policy direction and funding packages for these sales tax options, Cobb residents have several opportunities to learn more about the proposed mobility Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax.

Because of recent changes in Georgia law, Cobb County has the option to ask voters to approve additional sales tax options to generate revenue for general transportation infrastructure and/or transit improvements, according to a news release.

House Bill 930 allows the county to implement up to 1 cent for up to 30 years for transit, while House Bill 170 allows the county to implement up to 1 cent for up to five years for surface transportation projects. Cobb County can implement both House bills with the mobility SPLOST or a single House bill.

The public was already asked to provide opinions on these two sales tax options and possible project combinations during the CobbForward Comprehensive Transportation Plan update, which is still in progress.

Commissioners are asking for more comments to help refine the policy direction and funding packages for these sales tax options, the release said.

"Answering these key questions about the sales tax and investment options will help determine how funding should be invested for both transit and surface transportation if the county moves forward with one or both referenda options," officials said in the release.

Residents can take a public survey at CobbMSPLOST.org to provide input.

Additionally, three town halls are coming up for residents to ask questions, offer their opinions and learn more information about both the Comprehensive Transportation Plan and the mobility SPLOST:
