Here are the top three stories in East Cobb today:
- The Music Studio of Atlanta's East Cobb location was named a finalist for the 2023 Small Business of the Year award. The music studio, which is based in nearby Vinings, offers music services and instructions for both children and adults alike who are trying to develop their craft. The award is granted by the Cobb Chamber of Commerce. The East Cobb studio is located on Roswell Road at the Pavillions of East Lake Shopping Center. (East Cobb News)
- Political activist Laura Tucker Judge has declared that she intends to run for the Post 5 seat on the Cobb Board of Education in 2024 with the Democratic party. Judge is already well known in the community as the leader of the Watching the Funds-Cobb citizen-based group, and she has been known to be critical of the financial and spending priorities of the Cobb County School District. Current Republican seat David Banks previously announced he is unsure if he will be running for re-election, but John Cristadoro has already announced his candidacy at the Cobb Republican Party Breakfast. The declaration of intent does not officially obligate a candidate to run, but it is the first step toward the process. (East Cobb News)
- The Cobb County School District has reported that Kennesaw Mountain High School teacher Jason Hammett is no longer working for the high school after Hammett was arrested last week for allegedly drinking alcohol on campus. Officials said that last week, Hammett was reportedly caught on camera discarding a Crown Royale bottle in a dumpster behind the school from his car. The bottle was later found by an assistant principal, and a soda bottle filled with whiskey was allegedly found in his classroom. An investigation is ongoing and related to the suspicion that Hammett may have been intoxicated while on campus. (WSBTV)
