Here are the top three stories in East Cobb today:
- The Georgia House has passed a controversial transgender youth bill that would prohibit medical procedures for transgender-identified minors and strip medical licenses of doctors who perform them. The bill was passed along party lines, 96-75, with East Cobb Republicans John Carson and Don Parsons voting in favor while Democrats Mary Frances Williams and Solomon Adesanya opposed it. Republican Sharon Cooper, one of the bill's sponsors, was excused from voting, and the amended bill must be voted on by the Senate before the legislative session ends on Mar. 29. (East Cobb News)
- The Cobb Police Department is hosting a public safety forum on Mar. 25 at the Cobb Public Safety Training Center that is free and open to the public. The event will include representatives from various public safety agencies in the county, such as police, fire, 911, emergency management, and the Cobb County Sheriff’s Office, as well as the police departments of all six cities in Cobb. The forum will cover topics such as active shooter events, gun safety and laws, public safety interaction with citizens, building trust with law enforcement, and more. - The Cobb County Board of Commissioners voted 5-0 to build a new Gritters Library and Northeast Cobb Community Center, ending a three-year effort to replace the library that had serious plumbing issues and mold and mildew concerns. Commissioner JoAnn Birrell, who pushed for the project, was praised for her "fierce advocacy." The estimated cost of the project is $9.8 million, with funding from various sources, including a state grant and ARPA funds. (Cobb County Public Library via Facebook)

Hyde Farm, located at the end of Hyde Road in East Cobb, has been lovingly restored by Cobb PARKS and is currently used for educational purposes, events, and as a serene green space for citizens to enjoy.
