Wheeler's Artis Headed to UNC

He's the second Wildcat football player to commit to a major college football program in the last week.

Allen Artis of Wheeler High School announced on Tuesday that he will attend the University of North Carolina on a football scholarship.

Artis, a rising senior defensive back, was one of two Cobb County stars who has cast his lot with the Tar Heels, joining Cameron Albright of North Cobb.

As the Fayetteville Observer notes, they were among the high school recruits receiving a copy of a video entitled "Fedora's Freak Show," in which UNC head coach Larry Fedora sells them on the benefits of making a campus visit.

Various recruiting services indicated that Artis had offers from 20 other schools, including the SEC and the ACC, where UNC plays. His father formerly played football at Wake Forest.

Wheeler quarterback Elijah Staley made big news over the weekend when he announced he would attend Mississippi State and also play basketball.

Staley is a two-sport star for the Wildcats, who reached the state basketball semifinals and the football state playoffs.
