Here are the top three stories in Gainesville today:

  1. Yesterday (Mar. 6) was a key deadline for Georgia lawmakers as they had until the end of the day to pass legislation either in the House or Senate and advance it to the other legislative chamber for consideration. Among the questions they decided on were whether to legalize sports betting and whether to restrict gender-affirming care for children under 18. Some bills, including an income tax refund and a bill imposing longer prison sentences on some gang crime convicts, have already advanced, while a proposal allowing Buckhead to leave Atlanta has failed. Bills that didn't pass could still be considered next year, as this is the first year of a two-year session. (Access WDUN)
  2. Crystal Wilson, the adoptive mother of Jesse Wilson who went missing in 2016 and was later found dead in 2018 in Buckeye, Arizona, has been arrested at her Gainesville home in connection to his death. She was indicted by a Maricopa County Grand Jury and is accused of abandoning or concealing a body. Although she was the main "person of interest," there wasn't enough evidence to charge her with homicide. (FOX 5)
  3. The next Gainesville City Council Meeting will be held today (Mar. 7) at 5:30 p.m. The meeting will be at the Public Safety Complex Municipal Court Room. The agenda for the meeting will be posted here when it becomes available. (Gainesville Georgia)

Women make up almost 30 percent of the city's workforce and hold positions in various departments and divisions, including male-dominated fields. The city hopes to inspire and encourage women who aspire to have similar careers in the future. (City of Gainesville, Georgia via Facebook)
