Fatal Wrong-Way Crash Injures Family Of 6 In Hall Co.: GSP

HALL COUNTY, GA — A multi-vehicle wrong-way crash on a Hall County highway killed a 63-year-old Gainesville man and injured a Maryland family of six Saturday, the Georgia State Patrol said Monday.

The fatal crash happened around 4:30 p.m. near Strickland Road, authorities said. Impairment is being probed as a possible contributing factor, authorities said.

A Honda HR-V was heading east in the westbound lanes when it hit a GMC Acadia head-on, prompting the Acadia to overturn, authorities said.

The Acadia was carrying a family of six, including four children, from Manchester, Maryland,authorities said.

A Toyota Camry following the Acadia swerved to avoid the crash and ventured onto the north shoulder, hitting a curb, authorities said. The Camry was being driven by a 21-year-old Lawrenceville man.

The driver of the Honda was identified by GSP as Juan de Dios Ramirez, who authorities said died at the scene.

The family was taken to a local hospital for minor injuries, the GSP said. The driver of the Camry was not injured, the GSP said.

The crash forced Winder Highway to be closed for about two hours.
