Forsyth Crash Kills Man, 'Impaired' Driver Charged With DUI

Authorities accused a driver of being impaired and failing to yield while turning onto State Road 369, where his car hit a motorcyclist.

GAINESVILLE, GA — A 53-year-old man died Thursday after his motorcycle was hit by an impaired driver who failed to yield at Waldrip Road and State Road 369, the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office said Friday.

Authorities said the crash happened around 8:45 p.m., when a Hyundai Sonata waiting to turn left onto SR 369 failed to yield to a Suzuki motorcycle and hit it.

Timothy Cantrell, of Cleveland, was identified as the driver of the Suzuki and was taken to a local hospital. Shortly after arriving, he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the Hyundai was identified as 35-year-old Colt Spencer, of Gainesville, who had minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital. Authorities said Spencer was impaired by multiple substances at the time of the crash.

Spencer was cleared by hospital staff and was then arrested, authorities said. He was charged on suspicion of first-degree homicide by vehicle, driving under the influence and failure to yield turning left. He was taken to the Forsyth County Jail.
