Here are the top three stories today in Gainesville:

  1. The countdown has begun for Skate the City, which will be held on Apr. 30 at the Midtown Greenway. The event promises a fun-filled experience for all, including music, food trucks, drinks, and games for both adults and kids. The Skate Park will also feature a skateboard competition, music, and a food truck in the parking lot. Gainesville’s Inclusive Playground, Dog Park, and Fitness Court will also be open for visitors to explore. (Downtown Gainesville via Facebook)
  2. Georgia drivers are facing an average of 15 cents increase in gas prices compared to a week ago, with a current average price of $3.37 per gallon for regular unleaded gasoline. Savannah, Brunswick, and Hinesville-Fort Stewart are the most expensive metro markets for gasoline, while Athens, Gainesville, and Dalton are the least expensive. AAA attributed the price hike to the increasing demand for oil and a tighter supply. (WSB-TV)
  3. Fresh Express Incorporated has issued a voluntary recall of three salad kits that have passed their expiration dates due to listeria concerns in Georgia. A sample test of a salad kit with a use-by date of Mar. 31, collected by the Georgia Department of Agriculture, was positive for listeria; as of Apr. 10, no illnesses have been reported. The recalled products were distributed through retailers in Georgia and other states, and carried product code GO75 and use-by dates of Mar. 31 or Apr. 2. Customers who may have this salad kit in their fridge are encouraged to discard it, and anyone experiencing symptoms of listeria is encouraged to visit their local doctor. (Georgia Patch)
