Ideas for the Veterans Memorial Slogan are Being Accepted

Bricks for the memorial went on sale Sept. 1, and officials are now requesting the public's input on a slogan that will appear over the "wall of veterans."

The new , which will be completed in mid to late 2013, will be at the City Hall complex on Oak Road. The monument will include a wall of veterans, an eternal flame and a waterfall.

The Eternal Flame burned in tribute to the veterans who served in the Vietnam War until 2005, when the memorial was moved to the new city hall. 

“As a veteran myself, and being involved in Veteran organizations, I was well aware that the eternal flame meant more to the veterans than the city Fathers realized," said Witts, Snellville's Mayor Pro Tem .  "For years, I was part of the ceremony that included placing a wreath on the monument each Memorial Day. But when the monument was moved to its current location and the flame wasn't relit that tradition ended."

Everyone on the design and construction team is donating their time, including Chad Alexander Smith of CAS Architecture, Robert McCann of Haines, Gipson and Associates Consulting Engineers and Tommy Hill, owner of .

Hill will create a one-of-a-kind continuous sheet of water that will cascade over a portion of the wall. The fountain will also have LED lighting behind the water that will light the names of the veterans at night. 

“The only cost involved is the materials, gas lines and water,” said architect Chad Smith.
