students had a Perfect Attendance Celebration by enjoying a 30-minute session in two different inflatables. Eligible students included those who have been at school every day for the first nine weeks with no tardies or early dismissals.
celebrated the 50 day of school on Oct. 18 by wearing 1950s-inspired clothes and learning about that decade. The second graders made a timeline of events that happened in the 1950s and watched ‘I Love Lucy.’ They finished the day with a sock hop.
teacher Jenny Scarborough will be published in the new Chicken Soup for the Soul: Find your Happiness. Her story, "Antony’s Gift," was selected for publication. The book was released on Monday.

As part of Rachel’s Challenge, students have been challenged to perform one act of kindness for another person. On Oct. 19 and 20,  seniors Creigh Chandler and Lauren Holland led an assembly about Rachel Scott, the first student killed in the Columbine Shooting 11 years ago. Scott wanted nothing more than for all students to be kind to one another. Students committed to be kind and record acts on paper links that will be displayed at the Georgia Dome on Nov. 11.

The Sequoyah High School Marching Band got superior rankings in all categories at the Heart of Georgia Marching Band Competition in Warner Robbins. The percussion section was the Grand Champion percussion section of the entire competition receiving the highest scores of the night. Â
About 70 students from Sequoyah High School scaled the U.S. Army’s rock-climbing wall on Oct. 1 through the Air Force Junior ROTC. Â
Sequoyah seniors Madison Gilbert and Ryan Croom were selected 2012 National Achievement Scholarship Semifinalists.
Katie Pelzek, Thomas Brown, and Stephanie Brown were selected as Commended Students in the 2012 National Merit Scholarship Program.
Sarah Carnes was selected as the Cherokee County School District’s nominee for the U.S. Senate Youth Program.
Ella Linnea Lawton earned a Associate in Applied Science in Nursing from Excelsior College. James Patrick Diehl earned a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology from Excelsior.Â
